Training pugs and pug puppies can be a difficult task for a couple of reasons:
- Pugs are notoriously stubborn.
- Pugs just want to have fun... who doesn't?
Sierra is a great pug. She has her moments... especially when she doesn't get the attention
that she wants, but she's not destructive when she acts up, she just gets comical. We've worked with her
though. We started house training her when she was a puppy. We continue to work with her to keep her
active and learning new things. Along the way, we've learned a few things...
Pug Training Tips
- When training your pug, make sure that there is an element of fun to it. Pugs will drag their...
well, paws if you try to make them do something. They have to be convinced that it will be fun to do
what you want them to do.
- If you are house training your pug, you need to be consistent... and very patient! This was
probably the hardest thing to teach Sierra to do. The important thing is to be patient, it
will happen. Don't get frustrated and stop house training your pug puppy, stay consistent.
- Give them lots of positive reinforcement! This goes along with having fun, but it's important
enough to note that you need to watch your tone when you are training a pug. Pugs are very sensitive to
the tone of your voice. If it's positive (fun), they'll listen.
