Finding a Reputable Pug Breeder

You've decided that you want to bring a little pug puppy home with you, but you're not sure where to look. You've searched the classifieds of your local newspaper and found the add "Pug Puppies for Sale." Is this a reputable breeder? They say they have papers for the puppy. How do you know if you want to deal with this pug breeder?

Typically speaking, if the breeder sells to anyone, no questions asked, they are in this for the money and don't have the dogs' best interest at heart. This may not apply for every single pug breeder, but it applies to most. There should be some questions asked of you other than how you want to pay for your pug puppy.

If the people you are dealing with have little to no experience in breeding pugs, you run the risk of buying a pug with health and/or behavioral problems. In addition to that, pugs usually need to be born via cesarean section which puts the mother's health at risk. Supporting a breeder with little experience in breeding pugs could potentially put a pug in jeopardy.

The Humane Society has a checklist that you should follow which will help you in identifying a reputable pug breeder. We recommend that you read this before you go out an buy a pug from a breeder.

Enjoy your new pug puppy!
